Poonch

Poonch, a district of Jammu division entices visitors looking for both peace and adventure with its lush valleys, majestic mountains, and winding rivers. This charming area, which is nestled in the picturesque Pir Panjal Range, has a centuries-old legacy of rich customs and heritage. Since the epic age, Poonch has known history. The locals hold the belief that this region was visited by Lord Rama and the Pandavas. A well-known myth states that Maharishi Pulastya, Ravana's grandfather, is the source of Poonch's name. It is said that Pulastya spent a great deal of time in the past worshipping here. Following his departure, the region was known as Pulast Nagar. Over time, the name changed, going from Pulast to Printus, Printus to Prooms, and finally to Poonch. Poonch is still referred to as proons in the Kashmiri language. Poonch District, however, is a vibrant tapestry of cultural diversity and harmony rather than just a place of ruins and relics. Visitors are greeted with open arms by the friendly and welcoming locals, who encourage them to fully immerse themselves in the vibrant clothing and customs of the area.
