Situated in Jammu's charming Poonch district, the ancient Ram Kund Temple is a veritable gold mine of spirituality and legacy. Both history buffs and devotees have a deep affection for this hallowed location. It is one of the oldest temples of Poonch. According to the Archaeological report, Raja Lalitaditya constructed this exquisite temple sometime between 724 and 761 AD. The temple is the same age, style, and architectural design as the Kashmiri temples constructed by Raja Lalitaditya. This temple has a rich religious history in addition to its stunning appearance. The disadvantages of its location have kept it hidden. This ancient shrine is currently regaining its former prominence. Aside from the old temple, there are currently three holy ponds. Lachman Kund, Sita Kund, and Ram Kund are the names given to them. Ram Kund is slightly higher than Lachman Kund and Sita Kund, but it is still larger than those two. Exactly on the northern side of Ramkund, a spring appears. This spring's water flows into Ram Kund, which then overflows into Lachman Kund and, finally, Sita Kund. The size of the latter is the smallest. There's an ancient 8th-century temple on the eastern edge of Ramkund. Every year on March 14th, Chaitra, a large religious gathering known as Mela Chetar Chodas is held. It is attended by devotees from all over the districts of Poonch and Rajouri. Following a dip in the sacred water or kunds, people pray in the temple and participate in "Bhajan Kirtan," which is led by the "Mandlies."
