Located at a distance of 75 kms from Kathua district (and approx. 9 kms from Billawar which is in Kathua), the magnificent Sukrala Mata Temple is a highly revered and pious place that combines natural beauty with historical significance. Both locals and tourists have a particular place in their hearts for this hallowed location. The shrine is perched atop a hillock in a picturesque setting at an elevation of 3500 feet. The temple's massive, white-lined structure is standing proudly. The pilgrims must ascend numerous flights of stairs to arrive at the hallowed temple. The goddess Mal Devi, who is Sharda Devi's reincarnation, resides in the sacred shrine. Here, the goddess has taken the form of a Shilla (Stone Slab) perched atop a Brass Lion with a mounted silver head. The Holy Shrine features Mahishasur Murdini, the Demon King's reincarnation of Maha-Luxmi, and is linked to legends. Built by Madho Singh and Prince of Chamba, it attracts over 50,000 annual pilgrims. Travelling to Sukrala Mata Temple involves travelling through picturesque trails and winding roads that are dotted with colourful flora and fauna. Along the route, one can observe the area's rich cultural legacy, with charming towns and lively marketplaces displaying the colourful fabric of daily life. In addition to its religious significance, adventure seekers have a particular place in their hearts for Sukrala Mata.
