Baramulla
Earlier known as Varahamula, Baramulla is oldest and most important places of Kashmir. Situated at the altitude of 2730m above the sea level, Baramulla is a popular destination among those who want to immerse in the adventurous activities. The place derived its name from two Sanskrit words Varah means wild boar and Mulah means root or deep. As per Hindu mythology, Kashmir valley was once a lake known as Satisaras which means Parvati Lake. It is believed that the lake was occupied by Jalodbhava until Lord Vishnu assumed the form of a boar and struck the mountain at Varahamula. This paved the way for the water of the lake to flow out. Since ancient time the place held religious importance and the people of different communities were found living together in Baramulla. It is famous for its gurudwaras, temples, monasteries and shrines. It houses some of the spectacular tourist places like Gulmarg, Darang Waterfall, Gulmarg Skiing Resort, Gulmarg Golf Course and many more.
