Baba Reshi Shrine

Located at an altitude of 7000 ft. between Tangmarg and Gulmarg, Baba Reshi Shrine is a revered shrine of Baba Payam-ud-Din Reshi who was a courtier in the court of Kashmir King Zain-ul-Abidin. The shrine was constructed in the 15th Century and features Islamic architecture with Mughal and Persian influences. It is believed that once Baba saw a fleet of ants working hard to carry grains and preserve their food for the winter. This forced Baba Reshi to delve deep into his preparations for the afterlife. He left his job at the court and started his penance. The place is of supreme importance for those who want to have a child. Women offer prayers at this place and plead to Baba to bless them with a child. Once the wish is fulfilled, that family has to bring the child to shrine to express their gratitude. And it is believed that these children have to take the pledge of celibacy.
