Alpathar Lake

Alpather Lake is a stunning high-altitude lake situated in Gulmarg. At a height of 4,390 metres Alpather lake is a picturesque small lake located at the base of the twin Apharwat peaks. Locals refer to it as “frozen Lake,” and it is one of the main draws for tourists visiting the tiny hamlet of Gulmarg. This lake is breathtaking, surrounded by the Rocky Mountains and verdant meadows dotted with lovely wildflowers. This lake freezes over entirely in the winter, particularly around January and February. Even when it begins to melt in March, there are still pieces of ice floating in it and that is why the lake is referred to as frozen lake by the people of Gulmarg.
