Kokernag

Kokernag falls in the district Anantnag and 70 km away from Srinagar district. As per the revenue record, the real name of Kokernag is Bindoo Zalangam. It is located in Breng valley which is known as the ‘Golden Crown of Kashmir.’ It holds the largest freshwater lake of Kashmir. Kokernag is a collection of many small springs which resemble the claws of a koker (cock). The place is known for its Botanical gardens, freshwater springs and fresh trout farms. Kokernag has the largest trout fishery in Asia. The historical importance of the place lies in its reference in Ain Akbari. It is mentioned in Ain Akbari that the water of this spring satisfies both hunger and thirst and it also cures digestive issues. Kokernag Rose Garden is surrounded by thousands of colourful flowers that make the landscape bright and picturesque.
