Mamaleshwar Temple

Mamal Temple or Mamaleshwar Temple is a Hindu temple located in Pahalgam. It is situated on the banks of Lidder River at an elevation of 2,200 meters (7,200 ft). It is believed that this is the temple where Ganesha was placed as doorkeeper by Parvati and it was Ganesha’s responsibility to not allow anyone to enter the temple premises without her permission. And, this is where Shiva cut Ganesha's head and gave him an elephant head. The temple remains open throughout the year from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. It was built by King Jay Surya.
