Hidden away in the charming Udhampur neighbourhood of Jammu is the mysterious Moungri Cave, a historical and natural wonder. Within its rocky embrace lies an ancient cave thought to have formed millions of years ago, hiding a tapestry of stories just waiting to be discovered. The village of Moungri was formerly known as Sonara. Sonara literally translates to "a land of hundred water springs." Naara is the name for a water spring in Dogri language. The legend states that it was the residence of Nag Devta, the "King of the Snakes," and that hundreds of naturally occurring stone springs once flowed there. There are still a lot of these water springs in the region today. One finds an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati at Moungri Cave. The shrine has a nine and half feet long naturally formed stone Shiva Lingham along with Parvati, Nandi, Damroo and Amrit Kund (Kansar Shrine). One of the prime attractions of the place is the annual three days long mela organised by the administration in the May or June. However, thrill-seekers will also find Moungri Cave to be a playground in addition to a sanctuary for nature lovers and history buffs. The cave provides thrilling experiences for those who are daring enough to take on the thrilling activities of spelunking and caving. Moungri Cave promises an amazing experience for anyone brave enough to explore its depths, regardless of why they are drawn to it: its historical significance, its breathtaking natural beauty, or the chance to go on an adventure unlike any other. Prepare for awe and set out on a quest to solve the secrets of this antiquated marvel.
