The historic Bahu Fort, situated majestically atop a hill in the heart of Jammu, is a testament to the region's rich cultural heritage. This fort, with its towering walls and commanding presence, has served as a sentinel over the city for centuries. Built by Raja Bahulochan over 3,000 years ago, Bahu Fort has seen countless chapters of history unfold within its walls. The Bahu Fort is a fortress that represents the extravagant lifestyle of the Dogra kings and royal family who ruled the region. It is believed that Raja Bahu Lochan founded the Bahu Nagri and initiated the construction of this fort. Inside, there is a temple honouring the Hindu goddess Kali, popularly known as Bawe Wali Mata Ka Mandir. Tuesdays and Sundays are considered auspicious days, so pilgrims flock to the temple. An extensive terraced garden, known as Bagh-e-Bahu, has grown around the fort. The surrounding gardens and lush greenery make an ideal setting for a leisurely stroll or picnic with loved ones. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Bahu Fort is its connection to local legends and folklore. Tales of hidden treasures, secret tunnels, and ghostly apparitions abound, adding to the mystery surrounding this ancient stronghold.
