The historic Mubarak Mandi complex, Jammu's bustling streets, is a treasure trove of tales from bygone eras. This architectural marvel represents the region's rich cultural heritage. Raja Dhruv Dev laid the Mubarak Mandi palace's foundation in 1710 after consulting astrologers. On the northeastern side of the complex, Maharaja Ranbir Singh built terrace gardens-style palaces for himself and his queen between 1856 and 1885. The palace was the Dogra dynasty's royal residence for the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir. Later, Maharaja Pratap Singh built a palace for his queen, Maharani Charak, on the eastern side of the complex, facing the river Tawi. He also renovated the palace complex. After Maharaja Hari Singh took over in 1925, the royal residence shifted to the Hari Niwas palace, located near the Amar Mahal palace in the north of Jammu. Nonetheless, the Mubarak Mandi complex continued to serve as the political centre for the Dogra princes. The complex combines architectural styles ranging from Mughal to Rajasthani, reflecting the diverse influences that shaped the region's history. The complex, which is arranged around a number of courtyards, is home to a number of different palaces and buildings, including the Sheesh Mahal, the Rani Charak Palace, the Nawa Mahal, the Toshakhana palace, the Pink Palace, the Darbar Hall Complex, and the Gol Ghar Complex. Official events and ceremonies took place in the palace's halls and galleries. Each nook and cranny of Mubarak Mandi contains a story waiting to be discovered. One can't help but admire the grandeur of the Darbar Hall, where the kings held court and made decisions that shaped their kingdom's fate. The exquisite paintings on the walls tell stories of valour and romance, transporting visitors to a bygone era. From Mubarak Mandi Palace, visitors enjoy stunning panoramic views of Jammu's natural beauty, with the tranquil flow of the Tawi River to the east, lush green hills to the north, a bustling cityscape to the west, and the expansive Mubarak Mandi complex to the south, offering an unforgettable impression of the region's timeless beauty. Apart from that one can visit Dogra Art Museum which lies in Army Headquarters of the Mubarak Mandi Palace to delve more into the timeless history of Jammu.
