Zanskar Valley

Perched at a height of 13,154 ft, Zanskar Valley is a hotspot for adventure sports like trekking, paragliding, and water rafting, among others. It is a sub-district of Kargil. It is located 105 kms away from Leh and is quite popular among adventure enthusiasts. Some of the famous tourist attractions in Zanskar district are the monasteries, Zongla, Zongkhul, Stongdey. The main towns in Zanaskar are Padum and Kharsha. The Zanaskar valley is separated from the Suru Valley by the Penzila Pass which serves as an excellent camping place. Sani Gonpa, Karsha Gompa, Stongde Monastery, Burdan Monastery, Phugtal Gompa, Zangkul Gompa are the prominent attractions of Zanskar Valley. The famous Chadar Trek is a winter expedition over the frozen Zanskar River. This trek is the only way that connects Padum village with Leh in winter. This 60 kms trek approximately takes 5 days to complete.
