Turtuk is a small village in Ladakh, located near the border with Pakistan. It's one of the northernmost villages in India and offers a unique glimpse into the culture of the Balti people, who live there. This area was part of Pakistan until 1971, when it was integrated into India. The village is known for its stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the Shyok River. Its architecture reflects a mix of Tibetan and Islamic styles, with traditional stone houses and vibrant local colours. Turtuk is also famous for its apricots, which are a major local crop and are prized for their taste. The earliest known inhabitants of Turtuk were the Dardic Brogpas, who likely migrated from Chilas, now in Pakistan.
