Diskit Monastery

Hidden in the harsh terrains of Leh, the Diskit Monastery is a symbol of peace and spirituality. Perched on a hilltop, this ancient monastery provides panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and the Nubra River, which flows gracefully below. Diskit Monastery is a popular tourist destination in the Nubra Valley, not only for its breathtaking location, but also for the 106-foot Maitreya Buddha statue located just below the monastery. Diskit Monastery in Nubra Valley is located at an elevation of 10,308 feet, 15 kilometers northwest of the Khalsar-Panakil route, on the edge of the desert in the Nubra Valley. It is located atop a hill at the edge of a road that connects Partharpur and Those. Beyond its religious significance, Diskit Monastery provides visitors with insight into monks' daily lives through its vibrant rituals and ceremonies. Visitors can join in morning prayers or have insightful discussions with the resident monks to gain a better understanding of Buddhist philosophy and culture. For adventurers, the journey to Diskit Monastery is an exhilarating experience, with winding mountain roads and breathtaking scenery at every turn. Along the way, travelers can spot the elusive double-humped Bactrian camels, which are native to Ladakh's cold deserts and add a touch of wilderness to their journey.
