JAMMU AND KASHMIR WEATHERAvantishwar and Avantiswami Temples
The Avantiswami and Avantishwar Temples are ancient Hindu temples located on the banks of the Jhelum River, 28 km away from Srinagar in Awantipora, district Pulwama. They are also popularly known as Avantipur ruins. Avantiswami Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Avantishwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was built by King Awantivarman in the year 853-855 CE. Previously known as Viswasara, the ancient town which was then a capital as well, was founded by King Avantivarman. Locals also call the temple Pandav Lari, meaning “house of the Pandavas.” Though in ruins yet amidst its partial ruin, there lies a haunting beauty, a serene tranquillity that beckons travellers and seekers alike to pause and ponder, a place where the beauty of the natural world reigns supreme, and the echoes of ancient prayers linger in the air like a gentle breeze.
