Situated in Jammu's Reasi district, the magnificent Bhimgarh Fort stands as a testament to the region's rich history and architectural magnificence. This historic fortress, perched atop a 150m high hill, commands a commanding presence and provides expansive views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. The Bhimgarh fort was constructed in the eighth century AD by Raja Bhim Dev and underwent multiple renovations thereafter. Several emperors took turns ruling the fort. Under Gulab Singh's leadership, Mian Amir Chand oversaw the fort's restoration, which began in 1817 AD. Zorawar Singh Kahluria bravely defended the fort and gained promotions in the process. The Vaishno Devi Shrine Board renovated the fort in 1990. With the addition of gardens and walkways, the surrounding areas were renovated. Despite the devastating earthquakes and neglect, the fort is still a significant landmark in the town. The fort appears to combine Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles as it is today. It lacks any recognizable geometric form. The front entrance of the fort is 2.5 meters high and 1.5 meters wide, with the outer wall measuring 50 meters high and one meter wide. The Rajasthani language is carved on the front gate. Archers could use the loopholes in the outer wall to shoot arrows at any intruders. Bhimgarh Fort has something to offer everyone, regardless of your interests—history buffs, lovers of architecture, or those just looking for a peaceful getaway in the middle of the outdoors. So gather your belongings and set out to explore the enduring allure of this historic stronghold.
