The stunning Kailash Kund is a holy place revered deeply by the people of Bhaderwah in the district Doda, Jammu. Situated at a height of 14,241 feet (4,339 meters) above sea level, it is encircled by glaciers and mountains. The lake is also referred to as Kablas, and it is thought that Vasuki Nag, the deity of Bhaderwah, resides there. It is a beautiful pure ice-cold clear freshwater lake, surrounded by mountains and glaciers. It is the most attractive religious holy spot where Lord Shiva resided before Shri Vasuki Naag ji as the permanent occupant of the place. The place is quite popular among trekkers who wish to embark on this arduous task. Every year, the three-day sacred walk known as the Kailash Kund yatra is dedicated to Vasuki Nag, the town of Bhaderwah's deity, and has been practised for thousands of years. Only on these three days of the procession, which happens between August and September, does this ritual bring a large number of pilgrims to Kailash Kund. The journey to Kailash Kund places you at the base of Mt. Kablas, as the locals refer to it, in an untamed setting where the stark grey, mile-wide lake is situated. The Vasuki Nag temple in Gatha village, Bhaderwah, is where the typical trail to Kailash Kund begins. Subsequently, the path passes through several villages before arriving at the stunning Seoj Dhar meadows. Every rest area and temple along the pilgrimage route has a legend associated with it, and the route is replete with folklore. This route and the yatra are ideal for those with a strong desire to learn about a particular region's culture. The pilgrims take the same path, which was taken by Sh. Vasuki Naag Ji to reach Kailash Kund at the time when Garoodh Ji challenged him to fight. Shri Vasuki Naag Ji ran away to avoid the fight to keep the respect of Garood's promise which he had made to his mother Vaneeta as both Garoodh ji and Vasuki Naag Ji were the sons of great saint Maharishi Kashyap. Yatra starts with the beating of drums, blowing of flutes among the shouting of religious slogans by the people, first, people worship the holy mace with flowers, chanting mantras and then proceed on their way.
