This charming town is well known for its colourful customs, rich cultural history, and striking scenery. Purthu, Atal Setu Bridge, Basohli Pashmina and Basohli paintings are the prime attractions of this place. The 'Basohli Paintings' also famous as miniature paintings (from the Basohli school of Pahari painting) are what make Basohli so famous. Known as “Poems of Colours,” Basohli paintings became a major painting hub in the late 17th century. Famous physician Herman Goltz asserts that "Basohli painting is among the great achievements of Indians." The primary source of inspiration for them is Vaishnavism, with themes derived from the Epics and Puranic texts. The style is distinguished by elaborate details, powerful facial expressions, and lavish ornamentation. It is well-known for its strong lines, vibrant colours, and distinctive look. The paintings' various themes include religious (Gita Govinda and Ramayana), secular, literary, historical, and contemporary. In addition, the paintings capture intense passion and a poetic sense of the Basohli countryside. It is reported that Basohli paintings were called "Poems in colours." The paintings are characterised by vivid colours, strong lines, intricate symbols, and unusual details that together create an atmosphere of intense sensuality. Purthu is one of the star locations near Basohli. The water from the Maharaja Ranjit Sagar Dam forms this enormous lake. This is the reason this location is also known as Mini Goa. Particularly, the weather here draws tourists. Due to its complete cable construction, the Atal Setu Bridge is also a tourist attraction. There's no shortage of entertainment here either. Tourists come here primarily to spend evenings with friends and family. Three sides of crystal-clear blue water will envelop you. These water waves greatly aid in mind-calming. The beach is made even more beautiful by the palm trees and verdant fields. One must cross the 592-metre-long Atal Setu Bridge over the Ravi River in order to get to this location. The entire bridge is wired. You can also enjoy motorboat rides and other sports to do fun things here. Another famous thing of Basohli is its Pashmina material. Pashmina is known for its delicate texture and warmth and is made from the wool of goats belonging to the Changthangi breed, which is native to the high altitude regions of the Himalayas. Using age-old techniques that have been handed down through the generations, the artisans of Basohli expertly weave this delicate wool into beautiful shawls, scarves, and wraps.
