Located in the Kathua district of Jammu, Basohli (previously known as Vishwasthali) is a town close to Kathua. Situated 1876 feet above sea level, it is on the right bank of the Ravi River. It was established in 1635, possibly by Raja Bhupat Pal. There is a special place in the hearts of history buffs and environmentalists for Basohli. Purthu is one of the star locations near Basohli. The water from the Maharaja Ranjit Sagar Dam forms this enormous lake. This is the reason this location is also known as Mini Goa.
