Built in 1862 like a French-chateau overlooking the Tawi River, Amar Mahal is an architectural gem that has a rich history dating back to the nineteenth century. Four palace rooms of Amar Mahal have been converted into art galleries and historic museums depicting Jammu's royal history. Originally built as a royal residence by Raja Amar Singh, the palace is a fine example of Indo-Saracenic architecture that seamlessly blends Rajput and Mughal influences. Its red sandstone façade reflects the opulence and grandeur of the Dogra dynasty. The golden throne of Jammu, weighing 120 kgs and made entirely of gold, is the museum's main attraction. The art collection here is also quite impressive, with paintings by M F Hussain and Laxman Pai on display, among other well-known Indian contemporary painters. From the palace's vantage point, one can't help but admire the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The sprawling gardens, dotted with vibrant flowers and lush greenery, offer a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an architecture buff, or simply seeking a peaceful escape, Amar Mahal Palace promises a captivating journey through time and beauty.
