Akhnoor Fort

Perched on the serene banks of the mighty Chenab River, the historic Akhnoor Fort is a site to be adorned by history lovers. Nestled on a cliff, this magnificent fort has been under Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) since 1982 and has been declared a national monument protected under the Monument Act, 1958. What makes the place more important is the evidence of Harappan civilization, early historic pottery and the Kushan objects which were found at this place. Stepping into the Akhnoor Fort is like stepping back through time. Its fortified walls and imposing towers tell stories of battles fought and victories achieved. The fort's strategic location overlooking the Chenab River made it a vital stronghold for numerous rulers throughout history.
