The expansive meadow of Chowgan offers visitors a singular experience that combines historical significance with natural beauty. The Chowgan is a large grazing/play area located in the heart of Kishtwar. Its area is approximately 165 acres, or 520 kanals. Chinar, deodar, and various tree species encircle it. It is the district of Kishtwar's primary tourist destination. Its two largest temples are Gori Shanker Mandir in the north and Asrar-Ud-Din-Bagdadi, a shrine (Ziyarat) in the south. It was formerly known as Goverdhansar, and although it was once a lovely lake, a natural crisis caused all of the water to flow out, leaving it empty for play and grazing. Chowgan's beauty is enhanced by the majestic and lofty "Chinars." There are 100-200 year old Chinars among them. Essentially, Chowgan is a thriving cultural and social landmark in addition to being a lovely meadow. It is an important site in the Kishtwar district to visit because of its large green fields, historical significance, and function as a community center. Chowgan provides a rich and immersive experience, whether you're interested in learning about its historical roots, taking in its natural beauty, or taking part in local celebrations.
