Situated in Jammu's Udhampur district, the Ramnagar Fort looms large, resonating with legends of bravery and tenacity. With its imposing gates and worn stone walls, this old fortress bears witness to the region's rich past. On the banks of the Mansa Devi Nallah, it is thought to have been constructed in the 19th century by Rajput Raja Suchet Singh, who ruled from 1822 to 1844. The fort is a square building with three stories and polygonal bastions at each of its four corners. It also has merlons and towers. The fort also features an entrance with images of Ganesha, Durga, and Hanuman, and a central patio with cells and vaulted loads for gunball storage. When Raja Suchet Singh passed away in 1844, his wife performed sati close by. At the location of the sati, there is a Samadhi of Maharani. The Archaeological Survey of India began renovating the fort in 1972. It is a department of Archaeology protected monument. Entering the fort takes visitors on a time travel as they meander through its winding passageways and discover its secret rooms. Discover the stories hidden in every nook and cranny, ranging from the bold adventures of warriors to the opulent lifestyles of kings. The expansive views of Udhampur's picturesque landscape that are provided by the fort's ramparts are breathtaking. It's even been said that on a clear day, one can make out the distant, snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas.
