Tarsar and Marsar Lakes
Tarsar and Marsar Lakes are located in Aru in Anantnag district of Kashmir. They are also included in the Pulwama as the trek can be accessed both sides. But the preferable route is Aru in Lidder Valley. The trek’s route lies under the majestic heights of mountain Kohloi. It approximately covers a distance of 48 kms. The trek reaches an altitude of 13,500 ft. These lakes are surrounded by meadows dotted with conifer trees, mountains and gorgeous views of snowcapped peaks. Tarsar Lake is separated from its sister lake, Marsar Lake by a mountain with a peak elevation of 4000 meters. An interesting fact about the lakes is that they change their colours throughout the day, depending on the sun’s angle during sunrise & sunset. The lake can only be visited during the summer, which is great because you get to spot a variety of birds like black bulbul, bar-headed geese, high-flying coughs and Himalayan golden eagles. You can also enjoy its peaceful environment & enchanting beauty. Visitors are in awe of Tarsar Lake's captivating sight, which is created by the lake's shimmering turquoise waters reflecting the surrounding snow-capped peaks like a mirror. Its counterpart, Marsar Lake, invites visitors to stay and take in the peace of the surroundings with its serene atmosphere and emerald hues.
